Tuckahoe Village Departments

Police Department Report 2009

Electronic Control Weapons

The Department issued and trained all members with Taser electronic control weapons in order to reduce injuries to officers and citizens. The use of Tasers provides our police officers with less than lethal tactics and devices that may be employed when necessary to fulfill their lawful duties. The Taser is a less than lethal weapon that may be used to gain control of a potentially violent person when less forceful methods would be ineffective or unsafe. It uses electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles.

Police Desk/Communication Room Upgrades

The Department replaced the outdated existing police desk/ radio console with new technology that integrates inter-operable emergency service radio systems, internal intercoms, video monitors and the building’s security system. With the threat of terrorism and other man-made and natural disasters it is paramount for emergency services to be able to communicate seamlessly. Also, security of public facilities such as Village Hall and the Police Department (shared facility) requires constant monitoring and the ability to lock down without delay. A new radio console and improvements to the Police Desk area allows the police department to provide services that greatly enhance the safety of the public, police officers and the other emergency service personnel when they are most at risk.

Handheld Electronic Parking Ticket Writers

The Department began using electronic ticket writers provided by a vendor who administers the parking violations for the village. The electronic ticket writers by parking enforcement officers have reduced human error, increased productivity and the identification of scofflaws.
