Getting Greener For A Better Future

Environmental Committee Update

Vegetable Oil has been fueling one of our DPW trucks for the last 8 months or so. The outlook is great. We are not burning 60 gallons of diesel a week. Over a one year period we will reduce 34 TONS of CO2 emissions. All from one truck!!!

Every traffic light and signal in Tuckahoe are lit using LED technology. They burn longer and use less electricity.

Frank DiMarco has setup a plastic bag recycling bin at DPW. The response has been so tremendous that he has had to double the size of the container.

The county will accept "Type 2" and "Type 4" bags (the type of plastic is sometimes printed on the bag). Recyclables include grocery bags, newspaper bags, bread bags, dry cleaning film, packaging for toilet paper and paper towels, retail bags with hard plastic and string handles removed, and bags with sealed air for packaging."
