Getting Greener For A Better Future

Environmental Committee Update

Our DPW trucks now run on a mixture of Biodiesel Fuel. It's called B20 and it considerably cuts down on emissions pollution. Better yet, we have converted 1 to run on vegetable oil.

We are investigating the feasibility for our next Police cars to be Hybrid cars. The gas savings over a short term essentially pay for the car.

Our Village buildings underwent an initial NYPA Energy Audit. The NYPA will provide a report to us on how and where the Village buildings can become more efficient and save money in operations.

Updates From Our Tree Committee

Three new trees were planted in the open pits at the Crestwood Station using structural soil -- an innovative material specially designed to allow trees to grow in areas where there is pavement.

A tree ordinance is being developed to help protect and preserve our trees. The Committee is currently researching the ordinances of other Westchester municipalities to use as a basis for our own.

TREE FACT: Did you know that a mature tree produces enough oxygen to sustain a family of four for an entire year?
