Police Alert - Vehicle Larceny

 

 

**** POLICE ALERT****

The Tuckahoe Police Department, as well as surrounding communities has found a rise in larcenies from unoccupied vehicles during overnight hours. Electronic devices such as Global Positioning Systems (G.P.S), laptop computers, iPod/MP3 players, cell phones, etc. are the targets of choice. However, loose change and personal belongings have also been stolen. The following are basic points that will help to avoid being a victim of this crime.

 

Parked Auto Crime Prevention Tips

  • Always lock your car doors and close the windows
  • Never leave a G.P.S. unit or other electronic device in the car
  • Never leave bags, briefcases or backpacks in plain view, use the trunk
  • Report suspicious persons or activity to the police department immediately
  • Do not leave car keys in the vehicle. Several vehicles have been stolen using keys found inside unlocked cars

Despite several arrests of suspects committing these crimes; there has been a steady wave of criminal opportunists who continue to plague our community. We are working with our law enforcement partners to address this issue and ask for the public’s assistance.
