Tuckahoe Calendar |
Celebrate Independence Day with us on Thursday, July 1st when we attend the exhibit "THE HERO NEXT DOOR" at Concordia College's OSilas Gallery. The stories of more than 70 Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe men who died in the service of our country in wars of the 20th century are featured.
Evey is on vacation during the summer. Keep up your walking and exercising. We'll have four Tai Chi sessions with Norma Castle during the month. The City Island Historical Society and Nautical Museum is our destination on Thursday, July 8th. The museum celebrates City Island's oyster fishers and shipbuilders. City Island produced minesweepers, tugboats and landing craft used in beach invasions. Also, City Island produced seven Americas Cup winning yachts. The School Room shows what life was like to children in the 1830's. Following the museum, we'll lunch at Seashore Restaurant. Please join us.
Author Marge Pellegrino, Alice and Phil White's daughter, joins us on Tuesday, July 20th to share her experiences with the Hopi Foundation's Owl and Panther project. This incredible organization accomplishes a wide variety of work with families impacted by torture and trauma, both on and off the reservation.
On Thursday, Alice and Phil will show us and tell us about all the Tuckahoe Treasures showcased on the second floor at Village Hall. Transportation to Village Hall and the new Quarry Inn on Main Street is on our own. Sign-up is required.
We'll end the month with our "Potluck Lunch Picnic" and calypso entertainment by the Tony Terrell Trio.
We are closed during the month of August and will reopen on Thursday, September 9th. On September 23rd, we've planned a trip to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
We have a wonderful trip planned to the Culinary Arts Institute with lunch at the Caterina De Medici Restaurant. We will then tour the popular national historic site, the Italianate villa and estate of Samuel Morse, artist and inventor of the telegraph. Registration and payment for this trip must be made by September 21st. In order not to cancel this trip, we will open it to non-members.
Happy summer,
Barbara Stires
