Tropical Storm Ida Statement

Tuckahoe Village Residents,

As you well know, Tropical Storm Ida inundated the metro New York City area with rain causing severe flooding in many areas -- the Village of Tuckahoe was no exception.  Many of your friends and neighbors that have never experienced a flooded basement suddenly found themselves with rising water, many basements and vehicles were destroyed.  Fortunately, in Ida’s aftermath we take solace no major injuries were reported.

During the height of the storm our Police and Department of Public Works (and kudos to the Eastchester Fire Department) worked diligently to provide as much assistance as possible, when and where available.

Two major areas of the village experienced the worst of the storm, our Lakeview Park area (Armourvilla/ Lake Ave.) and the streets and areas surrounding the Tuckahoe Housing Authority, including Park Ave.

Residents and staff alike have “never seen anything like this,” not during Irene nor Sandy.

Our DPW and Sanitation crews are continuing to work and assist with cleanup efforts and will be making another round through the Village Saturday, September 4th for damaged bulk items.

Please note the village’s voice mail system is still experiencing limited functionality; for non-emergency messages please continue to call or email specific departments.

If your home has been damaged, please contact the Building Department for required permits and inspections prior to replacement.

Thank you for your patience as we work through the storm recover together.
