9 PM Routine

Along with other police departments across the nation, the Tuckahoe Police Department is joining in the “9PM Routine,” where police departments remind their residents through social media to lock their vehicles, secure their valuables, and leave an exterior light on around your residence at 9pm every night.

As a general rule, a thief will not break into a vehicle on the “chance” something worth stealing “might” be inside. They use their eyes first. Can they see anything inside? If the answer is NO, then they usually move on to the next car. If the answer is YES, they then lift up on the door handle to see if the door is unlocked. Rarely will they “break” the window or “jimmy the door”. Why? This will set off the alarm and it makes noise/creates attention. They don’t want noise and attention as this will lead to someone seeing them and calling the police.

Avoid being the victim, get into the routine of making sure your vehicle’s doors are locked every night at 9pm!

Share and help spread the word to your neighbors, and as always, if you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to call the Tuckahoe Police Department at 914-961-4800, or 911.
